wordpress 4.6 rc2

WordPress version 4.6 RC2 with Moesia Theme

Creating a working WordPress site is not difficult, but finding out which Theme to use is.

All the search queries you put in your favourite search engine are so very much worked to death by Search Engine Optimization that you will only get ‘Top XX WordPress Themes’ kind of sites that don’t really offer any advice but try to sell you something.

I ended up searching for ‘Free WordPress themes’ and after a few hours(!) I finally landed at the Moesia theme, which after changing some of the settings and finding a nice front-page image sort of works. It is not 100% HTML5 strict yet, so I will probably change to some other theme or take up the challenge of fixing one myself.

I am very open to suggestions, my list of requirements:

  • must work good on both phones, tablets and pc’s
  • must work good on all common browsers and on Linux or BSD based systems in particular
  • must do HTML5 strict
  • must do CSS3 strict
  • must be fast
  • must be secure
  • must be good for privacy

Perhaps the sparkling theme might also be an option.

Just when I was ready to call it a day I saw on Twitter that WordPress Release Candidate 2 was out, so I immediately upgraded. There is still al lot more work to do but at least now we can start to accept traffic to the site.
